Springfield sits on the Connecticut River in western Massachusetts, and Western New England University has its campus on Wilbraham Road on the city's east side. It started in 1919 as a Springfield branch of Northeastern and became a university in 2011. Engineering, business, pharmacy and law are the four pillars. Classes are small, and most undergraduates live on campus.
