Danbury was once called Hat City, when its factories made much of America's headwear, and Western Connecticut State University has taught there since 1903. The public university has two campuses: Midtown, near downtown, and the newer Westside campus on the hill. It's known for meteorology, business through the Ancell School, justice and law administration, and music. New York City is within reach by train.
