Petone has a long beach on Wellington Harbour and a main street of cafés and old shopfronts. Trains into the capital take about 15 minutes.
Wellington is compact, windy and full of cafés, government offices and theatres. Rent is high for New Zealand, so many students live in the Hutt Valley.

WelTec accepts international applications on a rolling basis. Apply three to four months before your start date to allow time for the student visa.
The main intakes are February and July. Some programmes also start at other times.
You'll apply online to Immigration New Zealand for a Fee Paying Student Visa. Budget time for the chest X-ray and medical, which some nationalities need.
Engineering technology, IT, construction and cookery are popular. Degree entry needs secondary school results comparable to NCEA Level 3 and IELTS 6.0; diplomas usually ask for IELTS 5.5.
WelTec offers a small number of international scholarships. Check the international study pages for current awards.
