Wisconsin's Polytechnic University is the official designation, and UW-Stout lives up to it with degrees you rarely see elsewhere, such as packaging, game design and hotel management. James Huff Stout founded the school in 1891 to teach manual trades. Most programmes build in labs, studios and a required co-op or internship. The campus is in Menomonie, on Lake Menomin in west-central Wisconsin.

UW-Stout admits on a rolling basis. International applicants should finish by about May for fall and October for spring.
Most students start in fall (September); many programmes also take students in spring (January).
International students come in on an F-1 visa. The I-20 comes from University of Wisconsin - Stout after you confirm your place and show you can cover a year of costs; you then pay the SEVIS fee, fill in the DS-160 and book your consulate interview.
Packaging, manufacturing engineering, game design and hospitality management are popular. Undergraduates need a secondary school record and IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 71. Art and design majors may review a portfolio later in the programme.
UW-Stout offers merit scholarships and nonresident tuition reductions for some international students. Check the international admissions page for current awards.
