Mount Baker, across the border in Washington State, fills the view from the University of the Fraser Valley's Abbotsford campus. UFV became a university in 2008 and teaches in Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission, with business, computer information systems, criminal justice, agriculture and nursing among its main programmes. Berry farms and mountains surround the valley. Vancouver is about an hour west by car.

The Abbotsford campus on King Road has residences, a gym and a bus exchange. The Chilliwack campus at Canada Education Park is about half an hour east.
Abbotsford is cheaper than Vancouver, with a large Punjabi community, farm stands and hiking trails close by. A car helps, as transit into Vancouver is slow.

UFV accepts international applications until programmes fill. Apply by spring for September and by early autumn for January to leave time for the study permit.
Most programmes start in September and January, with some courses running in the summer term.
