UTHealth Houston is the University of Texas health university inside the Texas Medical Center, the huge cluster of hospitals and research institutes south of downtown Houston. Founded in 1972, it has schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, public health and biomedical informatics, plus a biomedical sciences graduate school run jointly with MD Anderson. The Texas Medical Center has its own stops on METRORail's Red Line, which runs to downtown. Hermann Park and the Museum District are next door.
Houston is large, humid and spread out, and most people drive. Rent near the medical centre is moderate for a big US city, and Texas has no state income tax.

Deadlines vary by school. Public health and informatics usually set spring dates for fall entry and autumn dates for spring entry, while PhD programmes often close around December. International applicants should apply early to allow for credential evaluation and the I-20.
Most programmes start in August. Public health and informatics also admit in January for some degrees.
International students come in on an F-1 visa. The I-20 comes from UTHealth Houston after you confirm your place and show you can cover a year of costs; you then pay the SEVIS fee, fill in the DS-160 and book your consulate interview.
Public health, biomedical informatics, biostatistics and biomedical PhDs are the main options. You need a relevant bachelor's degree and IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 80. PhD programmes look closely at research experience.
PhD students in the biomedical sciences are usually funded with a stipend and tuition cover. Master's scholarships are limited, but some schools offer partial awards or assistantships.
