Most of the University of Queensland happens at St Lucia, in a bend of the Brisbane River about seven kilometres from the city centre. The sandstone Great Court, with its carved figures and jacaranda trees, went up from the late 1930s onwards. UQ is a Group of Eight research university, and St Lucia is where it teaches business, engineering, IT, law, the sciences and the humanities. CityCat ferries stop at the campus.

St Lucia is a leafy riverside suburb, and many students live nearby in Toowong, Indooroopilly or across the river in West End. Buses and the CityCat reach the CBD in around twenty minutes.
Brisbane is warm most of the year, and summer storms roll in fast. Rent has climbed sharply, so budget for shared housing.

UQ accepts international applications year round, but each semester has a closing date, usually around November for February and May for July. Some programmes close earlier. Apply at least three months ahead so there's time for your CoE and visa.
The main intakes are Semester 1 in February and Semester 2 in July. Not every programme admits in July.
The Student visa, subclass 500. The University of Queensland issues a Confirmation of Enrolment after you accept and pay the deposit; the application itself needs proof of funds, health cover (OSHC) and a Genuine Student statement.
Engineering, commerce, business analytics, data science and computer science are among the most popular. Bachelor's degrees need strong senior secondary results with prerequisite subjects. Most programmes ask for IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.
