Herston is UQ's health campus, about three kilometres north of Brisbane's CBD, built around the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. The Doctor of Medicine is based here, along with the School of Dentistry at the Oral Health Centre and a cluster of medical research institutes that includes QIMR Berghofer. Most students on site are in medicine, dentistry, public health or health research. Other subjects are taught at St Lucia.

Herston is a hospital precinct on Brisbane's inner north side, a short bus ride from the CBD and close to the cafes of Kelvin Grove and Spring Hill. Victoria Park's open green space is next door.
Brisbane rent has risen fast, so start looking early. The climate is subtropical, with humid summers and mild, dry winters.

The MD for international students has an early deadline, usually mid-year for the following January start, and dentistry applications close well before the year begins. Research degrees follow UQ's scholarship rounds. Check UQ's key dates for your programme.
The MD starts in January, and dentistry in February. Coursework master's programmes usually start in February or July, and research degrees can start at several points in the year.
The Student visa, subclass 500. The University of Queensland issues a Confirmation of Enrolment after you accept and pay the deposit; the application itself needs proof of funds, health cover (OSHC) and a Genuine Student statement.
The Doctor of Medicine, dental science and public health are the main programmes linked to Herston. The MD needs a bachelor's degree, a GAMSAT or MCAT score and an interview. Dentistry needs strong science results and IELTS 7.0.
UQ offers merit scholarships for international students, but places in medicine and dentistry rarely come with fee reductions. Research students can apply for UQ Graduate School scholarships that cover tuition and a living allowance.
