UQ's Gatton campus is a working farm about an hour west of Brisbane in the Lockyer Valley, one of Queensland's main vegetable-growing areas. It opened in 1897 as the Queensland Agricultural College and now hosts the University of Queensland's veterinary school, plus agriculture, animal science and equine programmes. Students handle cattle, horses and crops as part of their degrees. Many live on campus in the residential colleges.

UQ takes international applications through the year, but veterinary science has a firm deadline, usually in the year before entry. For other Gatton programmes, apply at least three months before semester starts to leave time for your CoE and visa.
Most Gatton degrees start in February, and some also start in July. Veterinary science starts in February only.
The Student visa, subclass 500. The University of Queensland issues a Confirmation of Enrolment after you accept and pay the deposit; the application itself needs proof of funds, health cover (OSHC) and a Genuine Student statement.
Veterinary science, veterinary technology, agriculture, equine science and wildlife science are taught here. Veterinary science needs strong maths, chemistry and biology results and IELTS 7.0. Most other degrees ask for IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.
UQ runs merit scholarships for international students, including partial tuition awards. Gatton students apply through the same UQ scholarship system, so check the list for your nationality and programme.
