Trois-Rivières sits halfway between Montreal and Quebec City, where the Saint-Maurice River meets the St Lawrence. UQTR, opened in 1969, is its French-language public university. It is known for health programmes that are rare in French, including chiropractic, podiatric medicine and midwifery, as well as engineering, hydrogen research and paper science. Classes are small and living costs are lower than in the big cities.

Trois-Rivières, founded in 1634, is one of the oldest cities in North America, with a small old town and a waterfront park on the St Lawrence. Campus is a short bus ride from downtown.
Rent is low and the city is manageable without a car. Montreal and Quebec City are each about ninety minutes away by road.

UQTR's international deadlines are usually around 1 February for September and 1 September for January. Chiropractic, podiatry and midwifery have quotas and stricter dates, so check each programme.
Most programmes start in September, and many also take January starts. The health professional programmes start only in September.
You need a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and then a Canadian study permit, supported by the letter of acceptance from UQTR. Apply online to IRCC with proof of funds and biometrics.
Chiropractic, podiatric medicine, engineering and accounting are popular. Teaching is in French, so expect to show B2 French. The health doctorates are selective and need science prerequisites, and places for international students are limited.
UQTR offers some exemption bursaries and merit awards for international students, and research supervisors fund some graduate students. Check with the financial aid office for current amounts.
