After the famine of 1816, the King of Württemberg set up an agricultural school in Hohenheim Palace to help farmers recover. That school became the University of Hohenheim, still based in the palace and its gardens on Stuttgart's southern edge. Today it teaches agriculture, food science, natural sciences and economics, with several English-taught master's degrees.
