Chester's Roman walls and the Rows, its two-tier medieval shopping galleries, are a short walk from the university's main campus on Parkgate Road. The university began in 1839 as a Church of England teacher training college. Today it teaches business, health, education, science and engineering, with engineering based at Thornton Science Park near Ellesmere Port.

Parkgate Road campus is just north of the city walls, and most students walk into town. Halls and teaching buildings share the site.
Chester is small, safe and full of black-and-white timber buildings. Liverpool and Manchester are each about an hour or less by train, and Wales starts a few miles west.

Chester accepts international applications through the year. For September, apply by early summer; for January, apply by October so there's time for the CAS and visa.
Most courses start in September. A number of master's courses and some undergraduate courses also take a January intake.
You'll apply for a Student visa. University of Chester gives you a CAS number once your offer is unconditional and the deposit is paid. You can then apply online up to six months before the course starts, with bank evidence and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Business management, nursing, mechanical engineering and the MBA are popular. Undergraduates need grades equivalent to UK A levels, and master's applicants need a bachelor's degree. IELTS 6.0 is usual for undergraduates and 6.5 for master's, with higher scores for nursing.
Chester offers international scholarships that reduce first-year tuition for eligible students. Check the scholarships page for current values and conditions.
