About two in five Alaskans live in Anchorage, and the University of Alaska Anchorage is where many of them study. The campus sits in the U-Med district in the middle of the city, next to the main hospitals, with wooded trails and a lake running through it. Engineering, nursing, business and computer science are the big programmes, and moose wandering between buildings are a normal sight.

Anchorage sits between the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet. The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail runs along the water, and the ski trails at Kincaid Park are a short drive from campus.
Winter days are short and cold, and summer nights barely get dark. Groceries and rent cost more than in most US cities, and a car or the People Mover bus helps you get around.

UAA reviews international applications on a rolling basis. Apply three to four months before the semester, around April for fall and September for spring, so there's time for the I-20 and visa.
Most programmes start in fall (late August) or spring (January).
You'll need an F-1 visa. Once you accept your offer and send proof of funding, University of Alaska Anchorage issues the Form I-20. After that it's the SEVIS fee, the DS-160 form and an interview at a US embassy or consulate.
Civil engineering, computer science, business, project management and the MBA are popular. Undergraduates need secondary school results and IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 61; graduate programmes need a bachelor's degree and usually IELTS 6.5.
UAA runs a single scholarship application each year, and some awards are open to international students. Graduate students can also ask departments about assistantships.
