About 30 miles south of Rochester, SUNY Geneseo sits on a hillside above the Genesee Valley. It's a public liberal arts college, mostly undergraduate and selective by SUNY standards. Many graduates go on to medical, law and graduate school. For international students it offers a small-college experience with public tuition, and business, accounting and the sciences are the common choices.

Geneseo is a small village with one main street of cafes and bars, and the college spreads down its western slope. Most students live on campus for the first two years.
Letchworth State Park, with its gorge and waterfalls, is about 20 minutes south. Rochester is 40 minutes north for shopping, the airport and jobs at firms such as Wegmans.

Geneseo has an Early Decision deadline in November and a regular deadline in the winter. International students should apply by January for fall and send financial documents early so the I-20 is not delayed.
Nearly all new students start in fall (late August). A small number of transfer students start in spring.
It's the F-1 student visa. Get your I-20 from SUNY Geneseo first (they need your deposit and bank documents), then pay the SEVIS fee, complete the DS-160 and attend the visa interview. Book the interview early in peak season.
Accounting, business, biology, economics and psychology are among the popular majors. You need strong secondary school results and English at about IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 80.
Geneseo offers some merit scholarships to international students with strong records. Places are limited, so check the international admissions page and apply early.
