Goodes Hall, on Union Street in Kingston, is home to the Smith School of Business at Queen's University. The school took its current name in 2015 after a gift from alumnus Stephen J.R. Smith. Its Commerce degree is one of the hardest undergraduate business programmes to get into in Canada. At graduate level, one-year master's programmes in analytics, AI, finance and international business draw applicants from around the world.

Kingston sits where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal, full of limestone buildings from its years as Canada's first capital. Queen's is a short walk from downtown and the lake.
Students rent old houses in the streets around campus. Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal are all within about three hours by train or car, and winters are long and snowy.
Letter of acceptance from Queen's University
Ontario provincial attestation letter
Proof of funds for tuition and living
Online IRCC study permit application
Medical exam, if requested
Valid passport and biometrics
Commerce applicants apply through the OUAC, usually by early February, and complete a supplementary application. Graduate programmes admit in rounds from autumn through spring, and international applicants should aim for the early rounds to leave time for the study permit.
The Commerce degree starts in September. Graduate programmes each set their own start dates, so check the programme page before you plan.
A Canadian study permit. Start with the letter of acceptance from Queen's University and, where required, the provincial attestation letter, then apply to IRCC online. Allow a few months, as processing times vary by country.
Commerce, the full-time MBA and the analytics and AI master's are the most popular choices for international students. Commerce needs top secondary grades including calculus. Master's programmes need a bachelor's degree, and several ask for a GMAT or GRE score and an interview. IELTS 7.0 is typical.
Queen's offers entrance scholarships to Commerce students, and Smith has merit awards for master's applicants, some aimed at international students. Most are assessed from your application, so apply in an early round.
