St. Lawrence University has been in Canton, a village in the far north of New York State, since 1856. It's a private liberal arts college of about 2,000 undergraduates, so nearly everything is a four-year degree taught in small classes. Students come for environmental studies, economics, biology and global studies. The Adirondack Park begins a short drive south of campus.
