College Park is a campus town along Route 1, with student apartments, cheap restaurants and a Green Line Metro station at the edge of campus.
Washington DC's museums, most of them free, are a short train ride away. Rent in College Park is lower than in DC itself, but still high by US standards.

Undergraduates apply to UMD, with an Early Action deadline on 1 November and a regular deadline in January. Graduate programmes admit in rounds from autumn to spring, and international applicants should aim for the earlier rounds.
Most programmes start in August.
International students come in on an F-1 visa. The I-20 comes from the University of Maryland after you confirm your place and show you can cover a year of costs; you then pay the SEVIS fee, fill in the DS-160 and book your consulate interview.
Business analytics, finance, information systems, supply chain management and the MBA are popular with international students. The MBA needs work experience and a GMAT or GRE score; the specialised master's degrees accept recent graduates. Expect IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL around 96 to 100.
Smith offers merit scholarships to MBA and specialised master's applicants, including international students, decided at admission. Undergraduate aid for international students is limited.
