Pratt's main campus is a gated 25-acre square in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, with sculptures scattered across the lawns and a restored steam engine room still running in the East Building. The private art, design and architecture school was founded in 1887 by the industrialist Charles Pratt. Architecture, industrial design, interior design and communications design are its best-known programmes. A second campus on 14th Street in Manhattan hosts some courses.

Clinton Hill is a neighbourhood of brownstones and tree-lined streets, with Fort Greene Park and the Brooklyn Navy Yard nearby. The G train stops beside campus, and Manhattan is about 20 minutes away.
New York rent is steep, so older students often share flats in Bed-Stuy, Bushwick or Crown Heights. Most first-years live in Pratt housing on campus.

Proof of funds for one academic year
SEVIS I-901 fee payment receipt
Completed DS-160 online application

Passport valid six months beyond stay
Undergraduates can apply Early Action in November or Regular Decision in early January for fall entry. Graduate deadlines vary by programme, many in January. Every studio programme asks for a portfolio.
The main intake is in the fall. Some programmes accept spring entrants, mostly at graduate level.
You'll need an F-1 visa. Once you accept your offer and send proof of funding, Pratt Institute issues the Form I-20. After that it's the SEVIS fee, the DS-160 form and an interview at a US embassy or consulate.
Architecture, industrial design, communications design, interior design and the Master of Industrial Design are popular. Applicants submit a portfolio with their grades. Undergraduates need about IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 79, and graduate applicants a little higher.
Pratt awards merit scholarships to international students at admission, based mainly on the portfolio and grades. Awards are partial, so budget for most of the tuition.
