Most teaching at Polytechnique Montréal is in French, and that is the first thing international applicants need to know. It's one of the largest engineering schools in Canada, founded in 1873, with buildings on the north slope of Mount Royal that it shares with the Université de Montréal campus. Students choose from about a dozen engineering disciplines, from aerospace and software to mining and biomedical engineering. Montreal's aerospace firms and AI labs are close by.

The campus sits on the north side of Mount Royal, above Côte-des-Neiges, where many students rent. The blue metro line stops at Université-de-Montréal station, right by the main building.
Montreal is a French-speaking city with long, snowy winters and packed summer festivals. Rent is lower than in Toronto or Vancouver, and daily life is much easier once your French is solid.

International applications for the fall usually close early in the year, around 1 February, with a later deadline for winter entry. Leave several months afterwards for the CAQ and the study permit.
The main intake is in the fall, in late August. Some bachelor's and graduate programmes also admit in January.
You need a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and then a Canadian study permit, supported by the letter of acceptance from Polytechnique Montréal. Apply online to IRCC with proof of funds and biometrics.
Software, mechanical, aerospace and computer engineering are popular bachelor's options, and many students continue to the MEng or MScA. Entry needs strong maths and science grades and proof of French. Graduate applicants need an engineering or science bachelor's degree.
Polytechnique offers some entrance scholarships and exemptions that bring international fees closer to the Quebec rate. Graduate research students may also be funded through their supervisor's grants.
