Maynooth is small and walkable, with a main street of pubs and cafés and the ruins of Maynooth Castle by the university gates. The Royal Canal runs along the edge of town.
Trains to Dublin take around 40 minutes, which suits students who want city life without city rent. Rooms are scarce in Maynooth, though, so book early.

ONCAMPUS Ireland takes applications through the year. Apply at least three months ahead, since the Irish study visa needs proof of fees paid and funds.
The foundation and pre-master's start in September and January. Check which Irish university you plan to progress to, as its degree start date matters.
If you're from a visa-required country, it's an Irish D study visa: offer letter, proof of fees paid, EUR 10,000 in accessible funds and medical insurance. Everyone from outside the EU then registers for an Irish Residence Permit after arriving.
The business and social sciences foundation is the most popular, followed by engineering and science. The foundation needs completed secondary school and IELTS around 5.0; the pre-master's needs a bachelor's degree and IELTS 5.5.
Cambridge Education Group sometimes offers fee discounts for ONCAMPUS Ireland. The Irish universities you progress to, such as Maynooth and DCU, run their own international scholarships.
