Stafford is a small city in Fort Bend County, just off the south-west edge of Houston, and North American University's campus is here. It's a small private university that opened in 2007, teaching computer science, business and education at bachelor's and master's level. Classes are small and fees are modest for a private school. Houston's energy firms and the Texas Medical Center are within a short drive.

Stafford sits along the I-69 corridor in south-west Houston, surrounded by suburbs, shopping centres and some of the region's most international neighbourhoods.
A car helps, as public transport is thin. Rent is lower than central Houston, and summers are long and humid.
Form I-20 issued by North American University
Proof of funds for one academic year
SEVIS I-901 fee payment receipt
Completed DS-160 online application
US embassy or consulate interview
Passport valid six months beyond stay
North American University admits students on a rolling basis. International applicants should apply at least three months before term to allow for the I-20 and visa interview.
Students start in August for fall or January for spring.
You'll need an F-1 visa. Once you accept your offer and send proof of funding, North American University issues the Form I-20. After that it's the SEVIS fee, the DS-160 form and an interview at a US embassy or consulate.
Computer science, business administration and educational leadership are the main programmes. Undergraduates need school transcripts and IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 70; master's applicants need a bachelor's degree and a higher English score.
The university offers merit scholarships that reduce tuition for many students. Ask admissions which ones international students qualify for.
