Morgan State started in 1867 as a small Methodist institute and became a public university in 1939. Today it's Maryland's largest historically Black university, on a hilltop campus in north-east Baltimore. Engineering, business, architecture, public health and journalism are among its best-known schools. Research spending has grown quickly in recent years.

Morgan State reviews international applications on a rolling basis. Apply by May for fall or October for spring so there's time for the I-20 and visa appointment.
Fall (August) is the main intake. Many programmes also admit in spring (January).
International students come in on an F-1 visa. The I-20 comes from Morgan State University after you confirm your place and show you can cover a year of costs; you then pay the SEVIS fee, fill in the DS-160 and book your consulate interview.
Engineering, computer science, business, architecture and public health are popular. Undergraduates need secondary school transcripts and about TOEFL 61 or IELTS 6.0; graduate programmes need a bachelor's degree and usually TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5.
Morgan offers some merit scholarships to undergraduates and assistantships to graduate students. Ask the admissions office which awards international applicants can apply for.
