Two cities, one medical school. Hull York Medical School was set up in 2003 by the universities of Hull and York, and students are based at one of the two campuses for their early years. Clinical placements then spread across hospitals and GP practices in Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, including coastal and rural towns. MBBS places for international students are few, so competition is stiff.

In York the school shares the Heslington campus, a short cycle from the city walls and the Minster. In Hull, teaching is based in the Allam Medical Building on the university's Cottingham Road site.
Hull is cheaper, with room rents well below York's. York is compact, historic and pricier. The two cities are about an hour apart, and students travel for placements.

For the MBBS, apply through UCAS by 15 October, almost a year before entry, and sit the UCAT that summer. Postgraduate courses have their own deadlines; international applicants should apply at least four months ahead to allow for the visa.
The MBBS starts once a year, in September. Taught master's courses also start in the autumn, while research degrees can begin at several points in the year.
The Student route visa. Your CAS comes from your registering university (Hull or York) after you meet your offer conditions and pay the deposit; the online application needs proof of funds, your English result and the health surcharge.
The five-year MBBS is the main programme. Expect top grades in chemistry and biology, a strong UCAT score, IELTS 7.5 with 7.0 in each part, and an interview. Postgraduate options include physician associate studies and anatomy.
Scholarships for international medical students are scarce. Check the medical school's funding page and your home government's schemes before applying.
