A lake sits at the centre of Furman University's campus, a few miles north of downtown Greenville, with a copy of the bell tower that once stood on the old downtown campus. The private liberal arts university was founded in 1826 and has about 2,600 undergraduates. Through a programme called The Furman Advantage, students link their classes to research, internships and study away.
