Lawton grew up beside Fort Sill, and Cameron University still teaches many soldiers and military families alongside local students. It is a regional public university in southwest Oklahoma, founded in 1908 as an agricultural school. Business, computer science, criminal justice, agriculture and education are the main programmes. Tuition and rent are low, and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is a short drive north.
