Buffalo State sits in the Elmwood Village, across the road from the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and next to Delaware Park, which Frederick Law Olmsted designed. It opened in 1871 to train teachers and is now a public university in the SUNY system. Education, fashion and textile technology, hospitality and engineering technology are its best-known programmes. Its art conservation master's is one of very few in North America.

The Elmwood Village beside campus is a strip of cafés, bars and old wooden houses, and Delaware Park's lake and trails are across the road.
Buffalo gets heavy lake-effect snow in winter, but its rents are among the lowest of any big Northeast city. Niagara Falls and the Canadian border are about half an hour away.

Undergraduate applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Graduate programmes set their own dates, and art conservation has a single early deadline. International students should apply four to six months before the semester.
Most programmes start in August, and many also admit in January.
International students come in on an F-1 visa. The I-20 comes from Buffalo State University after you confirm your place and show you can cover a year of costs; you then pay the SEVIS fee, fill in the DS-160 and book your consulate interview.
Computer information systems, fashion and textile technology, hospitality, engineering technology and education are popular. Undergraduates need secondary school completion and TOEFL 61 or IELTS 6.0. The art conservation master's needs chemistry, art history and studio art preparation.
Buffalo State offers some scholarships for international undergraduates that reduce non-resident tuition. Graduate students can ask about assistantships in their department.
