Brighton and Sussex Medical School is a partnership between the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex, and it took its first medical students in 2003. Students spend the early years on the Falmer campus, on the edge of the South Downs, then move into clinical training at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and other hospitals across the county. It's small for a UK medical school. International places on the BM BS are limited.

Falmer campus is a few minutes by train from Brighton station, with the South Downs rising right behind it. The Royal Sussex County Hospital is on the seafront in Kemptown.
Brighton is lively, liberal and pricey for a city outside London. The pier, the Lanes and the pebble beach become part of daily life, and London Victoria is about an hour away.

BM BS applications go through UCAS by 15 October 2026 for 2027 entry, and you need to sit the UCAT that summer. Shortlisted applicants are invited to interview. Postgraduate courses take applications through spring and summer.
Courses start in September. Some research degrees can start at other points in the year.
A UK Student visa, sponsored by BSMS. Once you hold a CAS, apply online, show funds held for 28 days, and pay the Immigration Health Surcharge. Most decisions come back within three weeks from outside the UK.
The BM BS is the main draw, with a small number of international places. It asks for top grades including chemistry and biology, the UCAT and a high IELTS score. Postgraduate courses include global health and medical education and need a relevant degree.
Scholarships for international medical students are rare. The two parent universities offer some postgraduate scholarships that BSMS students can apply for, so check both funding pages.
