The Salvation Army runs Booth University College from downtown Winnipeg, and it takes its name from William and Catherine Booth, the movement's founders. It's a small Christian university college with bachelor's degrees in the arts, business and social work. Class sizes stay small. The social work degree fits the Salvation Army's long record of community service, and international students are a small group here.

Winnipeg grew up where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet, at The Forks. The downtown campus is close to shops, buses and the old warehouses of the Exchange District.
Rent is well below Toronto or Vancouver. Winters are very cold, but people skate for kilometres on the frozen river trail from The Forks.

Booth admits on a rolling basis. International students should apply six to eight months ahead, since the study permit and provincial attestation letter take time.
Most students start in September, and some programmes also admit in January.
A Canadian study permit. Start with the letter of acceptance from Booth University College and, where required, the provincial attestation letter, then apply to IRCC online. Allow a few months, as processing times vary by country.
Social work, business administration, psychology and religion are the main programmes. Entry needs secondary school completion and IELTS 6.5 or an equivalent test.
Booth offers some entrance scholarships and bursaries. Ask admissions which ones are open to international students.
