Swedish immigrants founded Augustana College in 1860, and it now sits on a hill above the Mississippi in Rock Island, Illinois, one of the Quad Cities. It is a private liberal arts college of a little over 2,000 students. Biology and pre-health, business, psychology and music draw many applicants. Almost everyone lives on campus.

Augustana has early action and regular decision rounds for fall entry. International students should apply in the autumn or early winter to leave time for the I-20 and visa.
New students start in late August at the beginning of the fall semester.
International students come in on an F-1 visa. The I-20 comes from Augustana College after you confirm your place and show you can cover a year of costs; you then pay the SEVIS fee, fill in the DS-160 and book your consulate interview.
Biology, business, psychology and computer science are popular. Admission looks at school grades and essays, test scores are optional, and non-native English speakers need about IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 80.
Augustana gives merit scholarships to most students, including international applicants, and aid can cover a large share of tuition. Awards are decided at admission.
