Seventh-day Adventists opened Battle Creek College in 1874 and moved it to farmland at Berrien Springs, in south-west Michigan, in 1901. Renamed Andrews University in 1960, it is now the flagship university of the Adventist church. It has a theological seminary, an architecture school and an unusually international student body. Programmes run from aviation and nursing to business.

The campus spreads across fields and orchards beside the St Joseph River. Dining follows Adventist practice, so meals on campus are vegetarian.
Berrien Springs is a village, so life centres on campus. Lake Michigan's beaches are about 20 minutes away and Chicago is roughly two hours by car.
Form I-20 issued by Andrews University
Proof of funds for one academic year
SEVIS I-901 fee payment receipt
Completed DS-160 online application
US embassy or consulate interview
Passport valid six months beyond stay
Andrews reviews applications on a rolling basis. Apply at least four months before your semester starts so the I-20 and visa can be arranged in time.
The main intakes are August and January. Some graduate programmes also admit students in summer.
You'll need an F-1 visa. Once you accept your offer and send proof of funding, Andrews University issues the Form I-20. After that it's the SEVIS fee, the DS-160 form and an interview at a US embassy or consulate.
Nursing, aviation, architecture, business and the seminary's Master of Divinity draw many applicants. Undergraduate entry is based on school grades, and most programmes ask for about IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 80.
Andrews offers merit scholarships to undergraduates, including international students, based on grades. Graduate awards are more limited, so ask your department.
